Can Tho: seafood export turnover up 22.8 per cent

Can Tho city’s seafood export volume in April was estimated at 7.5 thousand tons, increased by 20.9 per cent over the last month, fetching US$ 36.02 million and up 22.8 per cent over the last month.

At present, raw fish price fell slightly over the previous month, from VND 800-1000 per kilogram. Price of tra fish weight from 0.7 to 0.8kg/ head varies from VND 22,500-23,500 /kg.

Regarding markets, although the US has announced the reduction of anti-dumping duties on shrimps and tra fish, it has enhanced controlling of antibiotic residues in shrimp shipments from foreign suppliers including Viet Nam. This could affect Vietnamese shrimp export activity in the coming time.

In the first four months of this year, Can Tho’s seafood export volume gained 28.6 thousand tons, fulfilling 16 per cent of the year’s plan and decreased by 9.6 per cent compared to the same period last year, fetching US$ 125.1 million. This figure was equivalent to 25.8 per cent of the year’s plan and decreased by 14.4 per cent year-on-year, accounting for 43 per cent of the city’s export turnover.
